Kenya's Renewable Energy Revolution

Kenya stands at the forefront of Africa’s renewable energy revolution. With over 90% of its electricity now generated from clean sources—geothermal, hydroelectric, wind, and solar—the nation has transformed from 37% electricity access in 2013 to 79% by 2023. The iconic Lake Turkana Wind Power project, Africa’s largest wind farm at 310 megawatts, supplies 12% of the national grid, while ambitious plans for a 1,000 MW wind plant in Marsabit County signal Kenya’s commitment to achieving 100% renewable energy by 2030.

Kenya's renewable energy mix overview
Solar and wind renewable energy infrastructure

The Distributed Power Challenge

Rural Households

50–150 kWh/month

Basic lighting, appliances, and connectivity

Community Clinics

200–500 kWh/month

Medical equipment, lighting, and refrigeration

Schools & Businesses

300–800 kWh/month

Computers, lighting, and educational equipment

Yet this transformation extends beyond megawatt-scale projects. Across East Africa, communities need reliable, distributed power solutions where the grid cannot reach or where connection costs are prohibitive. This is where innovative, compact renewable solutions become transformative.

Meet the CO3 Windboom

We represent Eastally, the whisper-quiet wind energy specialist behind the patented CO3 Windboom—a vertical-axis wind turbine engineered to blend seamlessly into any landscape while delivering meaningful power where it matters most.

  • Vertical-axis design: captures wind from any direction for consistent generation.
  • Bird-safe and quiet: whisper-quiet operation with a form factor designed to protect wildlife.
  • Versatile deployment: suitable for urban, rural, and commercial sites, standalone or in hybrid systems.

Verified Power Output

Wind Force 5

19–24 km/h
1.5 kW

At wind force 5 the CO3 Windboom delivers approximately 1.5 kW of power, enough for:

  • 4–5 rural households using 50–150 kWh per month each.
  • 1 small clinic with basic lighting, refrigeration, and equipment.
  • 1 primary school with classroom lighting and computers.

Wind Force 6

25–30 km/h
2.5+ kW

At wind force 6 output rises above 2.5 kW, enabling:

  • 9–10 rural households at typical East African consumption levels.
  • Multiple clinics and schools when combined in a localised micro-grid.

*Power output and household capacity based on verified field testing and typical East African consumption patterns. Actual capacity may vary based on local wind conditions, consumption patterns, and system configuration. Excludes foundation, installation, and grid connection costs.

Dual-Purpose Design

What sets the CO3 Windboom apart is its dual-purpose design: beyond generating clean electricity, each tower can be customised with illuminated branding, street lighting, or signage, transforming every installation into a sustainable, high-impact visual presence.

Branded Flagpole

Transform installations into sustainable advertisements with illuminated corporate branding

Street Lighting

Self-powered street lighting solutions for communities and commercial areas

Hybrid Integration

Seamlessly connect with solar arrays for maximum reliability and energy production

Eastally CO3 Windboom — Frequently Asked Questions

What foundation does the CO3 Windboom require?

The CO3 Windboom is anchored to a 3 × 3 × 0.4 m concrete foundation with embedded anchors. This structure withstands wind speeds up to 42 m/s, ensuring long-term stability and safety.

What is the rated electrical output and what can it power?

At wind force 5 (approximately 19–24 km/h), the CO3 Windboom delivers approximately 1.5 kilowatts (1,500 watts) of electrical power. In East African contexts, this output can reliably power 4–5 typical rural households (consuming 50–150 kWh monthly each), a small clinic requiring 200–300 kWh monthly, or a primary school with basic lighting and computer needs. At wind force 6 (25–30 km/h), output increases to support 9–10 households or equivalent commercial loads. Performance data is validated through practical field tests and aligns with verified consumption patterns across Kenya and the broader East African region.

Can the wind boom share infrastructure with solar panels?

Yes. The Windboom can be connected via the same cable run as an existing solar array, provided the total connection value at the meter box accommodates the combined load.

What materials are used in the Windboom?

The mast is fabricated from zinc-coated steel for corrosion resistance. The turbine blades are 3D printed from PETG. Both materials are 100% recyclable, supporting circular manufacturing.

Where are the Windbooms produced?

Every Windboom is currently manufactured in Doetinchem. Eastally’s production model is designed to localise manufacturing close to future sales regions for efficiency and sustainability.

Can the Windboom function as a sustainable flagpole or advertising mast?

Yes. Eastally works with companies that deploy the Windboom as a branded, sustainable flagpole or advertising mast. It’s also suitable for applications such as light poles and traffic signage.
